Unhappy Rear end cover obsolete?

Looked under my truck and seen a Leak starting at the rear end cover. Looked at Pinion seal all looks ok not coming from there. Went to my local ford dealer to get some parts he told me the rear cover is obsolete it sounds crazy? The truck is a 2001 supercrew with only 32,000 miles the rear is a 355 limited slip I would reuse the old cover put it looks like it is rotted also? I have also read that they leak from the sealer around the cover I have a p/n 5L3Z4033AA looking for suggestions or where I can pick one up or a good after market that is a good product and proven thanks all for any help Dan

Not sure exactly what that means by obsolete...you kinda need a rear diff cover. I would suggest a mag hytech. They're machined from billet aluminum, have drain plugs, and most i believe have magnetic dipsticks. It will cost you, but it wouldn't suprise me if it was less than an oem diff cover from Ford service

Thumbs up Rear end cover

Thanks Ryan
Do you know who has it the cheapest? alot of people are selling them. Tommorrow night I was going to get under the truck and wire wheel the spot that looks rotted to see if it is coming from there hoping it is just the sealer that gave up and not the cover rusted thru. Thanks for your suggestions DAN

Most industries require a manufacturer to have parts available for 10 years by law. I would assume the auto industry is the same.

Called ford back and spoke to parts manager he ran all the info again. And said the cover is on national back order till july 25 so he ran a dealer check and found it at a dealer 12 miles away. Went and picked it up the old pan had a rust hole right throught. The truck is a 2001 with 31,000 miles? going to install it today could not find a gasket going to have to install it like stock with the sealer.

huh? how'd that happen? lol

i bought a cleargearz cover, was really neat until it got f'd up by a ring gear's bolt ejection. but in its defense, it took the hit very well. no leaks.

theres a wonderful item called a wire brush, then this silver can thingy that has paint in it. between those 2 you can keep things from rotting.

The old pan was rotted thru I did clean it up and MIG weld the hole but. I figured for $52 dollars why fool around I also went with the ford sealer. So at the end of the day $70 dollars for 3 guarts of oil and friction modifier. $52 dollars for the new pan $20 dollars for the ford sealer for a grand total of $142 dollars for a rotted diff pan and free labor myself that is also the new pan had a better coat of paint on it I hope. thanks to all for there advice and input. on the road again Dan
