gear break-in

Ok, I put motive gears in the truck, and on the box it said break in required... So I have run 500 mi. and kept the rpm's below 2000 on the rear diff. What do I do for the front diff.? It would take me a whole year to rack up 500mi. how many miles do ya all feel would be ok. I could run around on some back roads (gravel) for a while. Hunting season isn't for a few months so I wont be using 4wd. What would anybody out there do????

your front diff is always spinning, so i would just take it out in 4 for some light play just to feel sure.

i personally ran 50 miles, then put her in 4 lo for some ditch crawling.

This is exactly what i plan on doing also. The gears in the front differential are always spinning at least in the 97-03 (04) the NBS 04+ I dont think the gears spin until its in 4wd. I might be wrong.

04+ its independent. They don't spin until its in 4 wheel.

I would just put in 4 wheel and drive in circles. I put mine in 4 and drove up and down dirt roads.

front does not matter. Gears build alot of heat in there early stages of break in once they break in they are fine, that extra heat can cause them to develop a poor wear pattern and become noisy, or stress them but doubtfull. Your fronts wil never build enough heat to damage them unless you drive around in 4wd at 70 mph. If they do spin all the time they are already broke in, abuse at will. If they don't spin you will probably never really break them in but it does not matter, break in is more for noise puropses.

Yes. Thanks for clarifying. That would be very bad. Its also good to put it in 4wheel at least once a month to keep everything lubricated on the front end.
