I'd move up to a Dana 60 if you plan on wheeling with those 40's...

Dana 60

or build the **** out of the D44... you would need chromoly everything.

**another neat thing to know, you can build a Yota axle stronger then a D60... but to get a Yota axle under there would be one hell of a custom fab job. I think they are passenger drop only. We are driver.

Which coil system are you going to go with ? What rate of coils you planning to use ? What kind ? Plannin on a 4 link system ? Triangulated ? Or maybe a 3 link + Panhard ? If ya need help being pointed in the right direction or tips on when to use Johnny Joints vs. Jimmy Joints. What tubing and etc etc etc to use feel free to ask. I have built a couple buggies

I agree with everyone. The real question is if he muds that truck. For a street queen, D 44's will hold up to 40's, but not so much in the mud.

Would it really be worth it to build up the D44's?

I think that a D60 is the way to go.

Go big or go home is what I always say.

^^ how ya gunna have it set-up ? What kinda suspension you gunna run ?

You gunna make this an off-road only rig ? Or still street drive-able ?

You gunna run the 3/4 ton or the 1 ton ? Gears ? "traction aids" ?

And finally, pics ???

Not sure what years, but yes some of them came with the D60...

Then they went to the Sterling 10.5 rear end and I think they continued running D60 up front... but I'd have to look into all that to be 100% sure.

D60's were earlier superdutys. The latest models use a 10.25 sterling up front and a 10.50 rear. The early 2000's with 7.3 PSD had a Dana 35 or 44 up front i believe.

Reman halfshafts are less than 70 bucks each at Rock Auto. They APPEAR to have a lifetime warranty.
