Anyone ever run a rear diff low on gear oil?

O.K. folks, here's a real pisser. I went to check the rear diff fluid, and behold it was low. So down to the parts store and got a quart of gear oil. When i went to fill her up, she took the whole quart!
**NOTE TO SELF**: Next time, change diff fluid, then drink case of beer, not the other way around
I have noticed a little more whining coming from the rear end, but did'nt think much of it till after I discovered the low quantity.
I'm thinkin i may have cooked the bearings due to the low fluid quantity, but wanted to see if anyone else has had experience with running a low quantity in their diff, or should i just order bearings now
