1991 Fuel tank capacities

1991 Fuel tank capacities

I've got a 4.9L, standard-cab, long wheelbase, 4x4 F-150 with dual tanks. I need to replace the front tank. The owner's manual says the front, or "side-mount", or "midship" tank is a 19-gallon tank, but a replacement I almost bought from a local salvage yard was way too long. I suspect it's really a 17-gal tank, but before I order a new one from an on-line dealer, I'd like to know for sure. Does anybody have the approximate dimensions of these tanks or a definitive source of reference?

Turns out these midship tanks are hard to find at salvage yards because when they move the bodies around with their forklifts, they usually crush the tank...
