play in the steering wheel

play in the steering wheel

Can u adjust the amount of play in my steering wheel right now i have alot of play and would like to fix this. suggestions?

You can. All you need is a flathead screwdriver and a 5/8 wrench. Look on top of the gearbox and you'll see a screw with a nut holding it down. Loosen the nut and turn the screw while holding the nut. Just turn it until you feel it get snug (probably a turn or so), then tighten the nut. If you overtighten it, the steering wheel won't "come back" after a turn. Sometimes you have to hold the screw and turn the wrench CCW if you can't turn the screw by hand.
Just remember, not too tight.

break out the pb blaster for this job. the adjustment on my 87 dakota was seized like you couldnt believe. soak it overnight.
