IWE problems

I am pretty new to this forum and i haven't really spent much time on this particular sections, but it seems like the IWE solenoid is a problem for quite a few of us. for me the problem came when i was off-roading and went to climb a steep hill i would here the hub grinding and having trouble engaging. when i would let off the pedal i would hear the clink of what i guess was the hub finally engaging. what i would like to know is for you guys that have looked into or actually gotten this problem resolved. How much was it and how hard would it be for a guy with moderate to minimal mechanical knowledge to do himself?

Ford has a message about the control solenoid having water intrusion. The solenoid is on the firewall right behind the battery. Check the vacuum line for any moisture, if so, there is an updated solenoid with a built-in shield. Also check vacuum lines for any leaks. Seen a couple break down by the battery.
