Is there a way you can check to see if it is this IWE? And what about how you can tell is they did fix it? Thanks guys,

Tsb 06-8-15

Wow it is refreshing to find out that I am not the only one experiencing this problem. This started back in Jan 08' for me. Two very minor occurances of grinding maybe 5 sec in duration with a month in between each time. Anyway, a few weeks back it occured again for the third time. However this occurance was the most violet truck shaking, gear grinding, metal on metal experience I have ever encountered; even my 7 year old son asked what was wrong with the truck. Immediately took it to the shop but unfortunately they could not duplicate it (figures).

I go and get my truck and less then 2 weeks later, it does it again. This time my 5 year old is in the truck and asked me what was wrong with my truck. For a 5 and 7 year old to relize something was not right it should tell you how violent these episodes were.

Back to the dealer and this time they figured it out...TSB 06-8-15 bad solenoid engaging the hubs. They state "your truck is fixed". Well I believe they may have fixed the problem, though that remains to be seen. My major concern is the damage that was done while the truck was trying to put itself into 4wheel drive.

Am I justified to believe that based on the voilence of the occurances that there is internal damage that has been done? I tried to relay this to the service rep...the service manager...the general manager...and Ford customer service. They all say "the problem is fixed according to the TSB".

This is still an ongoing battle as I want the entire 4x4 system thoroughly inspected inside and out. Ford does not want to do it. I feel Ford is really letting me down on this one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for lisening.

So you can rule out the T-case. It was never involved. The IWE is what was most likely replaced along with the solenoid. Do you have the bill? Post what it says was changed.

JMC,

I don't know if you were referring to me or not, but the only part that was replaced was the IWE Solenoid!

If the transfer case was never involved what was causing the voilent grinding, metal on metal, truck shaking "experience"? I feel 100% justified to believe that something was damaged as a result of this, but what components could have been involved? What should I demand they inspect?

The issue I have trouble getting across to anybody is the co-lateral damage that could have occured based on the issue stated in the TSB! It is the simple cause and effect scenario...they found the cause and fix it, but now they don't want to own up to the effect it had on my truck before it was cause was corrected.

I am not through with my "fight". I am just trying to obtain as much fire power as I can prior to calling the general manager again on Monday.

The transfer case doesn'T and cannot be shifted by a faulty IWE solenoid. That is why it can be eliminated. The TSB deals with a Faulty IWE and Solenoid. The GEM us what controls the t-case action. it also sends a signal to the IWE solenoid to release the vacuum so the IWE can engage. The IWE not fully disengaging is what caused the grinding. Nothing in the t-case was involved.

I am having very similar problems, did a search or my son did for me and got onto this forum. Makes terrible grinding noise, sounds like you are dragging something, then clunk it stops or I stop truck and it stops and then I take off and all is fine. So took it to dealer and I was lucky it did it with them test driving. They said it was a faulty sensor and replaced the left hand 4 x 4 actuator asy. Under warranty so no charge. Well it is still doing it and now the other side is doing it. So I called them back and it goes back Monday. I sure hope they find the problem before damage is done, it was doing this for about a week before I got it in. Asked if it did any damage and was told no. Should I ask to see the old part? I thought about that, seems like a normal request. Any feedback?

Question grinding/clunk from front wheels

i have 2007 f150 4x4 5.4 v8 purchased last month from dealer with 15,000 miles. driving home from dealer in sleet /rain and slush on the roads heard this scratching grinding noise ( thought it was static on the radio at first) coming from front of vehicle as i slowed down noise slowed down just as i was about to come to complete stop load clunk and it quit. Did not happen again until last week during rain storm this time i switched to 4h and noise instanlt stopped. From reading on this thread sounds like i need solenoid replaced. i looked and i have the cover around it but it is all open in the front so moisture can still get in. mine is under warranty i will see what ford tells me next week.

Mine is still making it after they replaced the part they thought needed replacement, they told me to bring it back in, and they drove it around, kept it overnight, drove some more, it wouldn't do it again! Come to find out they never drove it the first time and heard the noise, the mechanic replaced what he thought was the problem. So now I don't know what to do, the weather has been such here that I have been driving in 4x4 quite a bit, but it did do it again the other day in 2 wheel drive, so I slowed down, put in 4x4 and it quit and so put it back into 2 wheel drive. Am going to try another dealer. Somebody has to fix this before the warranty expires or it does serious harm.
