Thump when turning right

My 2003 F150 is 4WD, has 140k. While in 2 wheel drive, when I turn right it has a thump that seems to be coming from the left front wheel. Is it a Wheel Bearing or could it be something to do with the 4WD like a CV joint?

I am having the same problem, just in the opposite wheel. I changed a bad tie rod today, but it didn't help. Anyone have some input?

Try CV joint. Is it more of a "popping noise" ...b/c if it is most likely CV joint !!

On mine, it seems like a grinding / vibration, only in slow turns. Going uphill in a turn it is more like a pop.

I just got the truck up off the ground and used a bar to move the wheel up and down. There seems to be quite a bit of movement at the lower ball joint. Could a bad ball joint cause these issues?

If you have never replaced the ball joints then they are probably the culprit. You may as well replace the lower ball joints and upper control arms on both sides while you're at it. The upper ball joint is not replaceable, you must change the entire upper control arm. If you do the work yourself, then drive straight to an alignment shop when you are done. While under the truck, I suggest you check you're tie rod ends and idler arm as well. Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I have only had the truck about a month, so I am not sure if or when they were last replaced. The driver side is definitely different from the passenger, seems to be newer. I did check all the tie rods and replaced the outer passenger today.

Do I need to have alignment done if I only change out the lower ball joint? Is there anything I should know before tackling this project? I want to work on it tomorrow, but do not want to miss the Superbowl in doing so.

The lower ball joint is pressed in so you will need the proper tool to remove it. You can borrow these for free with a refundable deposit at Advance or Autozone. I woouln't think you would need an alignment if you are just changing out your lower joints.

after further investigation, I found that it is the rear passenger wheel binding up. It seems to only start after I have been driving for 15 minutes or so. I have checked the emergency brake and all is well. Any ideas what could be causing the binding and why only after the truck heats up? It binds no matter which way the front wheels are turned.
