Front and Rear Diffs.

I have a 1997 f-150 with a 4.2l engine and is also 4 wheel drive, how can i tell what differentials i have if it is a 8.8 or 9.75 im wanting to regear for larger tires im getting...4.10's is what im planning on

It will list it on the tag on the diff, but being you have the 4.2l, you have 8.8s, with the front being a reverse cut.

alright thanks, I noticed tho when i was looking at gear packages it also said 31 spline? What is that and how would i know if that is for my truck is it located on the diff. tag also

that is the axle spline count for the axles that slide in the diffrenal not info thats needed for a gear change you only need 8.8in gear one normal cut and the front will be revirsed as he said
