Limited Slip Friction Modifier
I am preparing to change my diff fliud and I was going to change to Amsoil for that. My question is why does the Amsoil gear lube not require friction modifier when other gear lubes do? I know that Amsoil says that their product is limited slip ready but our diff's come with synthetic already and still the owner's manual says it is required. Does that mean that Amsoil puts friction modifier in the gear lube already. Something just doen't add up or at least I'd like to know what the difference is.

Don't know for sure about Amsoil, but Redline makes both a normal grade for open rears and a "NS" grade gear lube especially for LS rear ends, no modifiers req'd. I'd assume Amsoil does the same.
If you really want the correct answer to the question, please call 715-392-7101 ask for Tech services! They will be able to give the most correct answer. I probably can give a round about answer, but can't be sure of the accuracy.
When you call please post the answer for all of us.
Maybe the "clutches" will bind with conventional oil and cause that clattering,
but since Amsoil is such a superior lubricant the clutches do not bind?
That is my educated guess, I do recommend you get the proper word from Amsoil Inc. at the above number
