HELP! Gear Oil question
HELP! Gear Oil question
So i have a 2003 F-150 w/ 50,000 miles. I have always taken to dealership for oil changes. However, im out of town and was forced to use a jiffy lube or continue to go beyond 3000 miles. (I know guys, they suck).
Anyway. I leave and get home and see that they added what looks like gear oil to my truck without my permission.
They added Gearplus Gl-5( they didn't list the weight).
My question is: From looking at the owners manual, this is not the correct gear oil.
Will this totally "f&^^" my truck up, or since they only topped it off will it be ok?

that's not all true, I take mine to valvoline and the guys there take real good care of me cause i'm in there once a month almost with my ranger and every 3 with my 150. They've saved me several complications and suggested against certain things that come up on factory list but my not have to be done as it says, depending on your driving. that being said, it never hurts to double check from time to time. My buddies mom went to jiffy lube and they did'nt put any oil back in the engine. it blew and they bought her a new one but it wasn't the same one that came in her tweety edition zx2.
I'm guessing that you didn't need any fluid unless you have a leak - if I'm not mistaken 1/2 inch or so below the lip is considered full. Don't hold me to this, but I don't *think* overfilling *or* use of standard GL-5 for a topoff will damage anything. Ask your dealer's opinion when you get back home.
