help with buying new rear differential cover

mine is getting really rusty, so i am going to get a new one. thing is how do i know which size or whatever mine is? because there are alot of different ones for fords.

I crawl under and clean and paint mine every spring, as well as touch up the whole under carriage and frame.

what engine is in it? the 4.2 and 4.6 have an 8.8 rear end and the 5.4 have either a 9.75 or 10.25 if you have the heavy payload package

That is all true, but it's not necessarily the best way to figure out what rearend you have. It's always possible that for whatever reason a previous owner switched the rearend. The rearend on my truck when I bought it didn't match the axle code on the sticker and I know of one other member on here with the same issue. Just a thought. But 99.9% of the time you'll have the original.
