Preventive Maintenance Questions
Preventive Maintenance Questions
If I were dealing with another Crown Vic, I would be fine on my own. But I recently bought a '98 F-150 Supercab 4X4 off-road with a 4.6/auto. It has right at 140,000 miles now. I'm planning on keeping it one to two years, and want to catch up on the preventive maintenance. Here's what I have in mind so far:
New brake lines and flexible hoses all around, because the truck came from the Midwest. I plan to replace the front/rear brake pads, and turn the rotors/drums, rather than replace them. I have read that the front wheel bearings can be cleaned and repacked, and I plan to do this as well.
Clean and lube the front caliper slide pins
Inspect brake syatem thoroughly before reassembling
New thermostat and coolant, even though the coolant looks fine.
Fresh Mobil One 75W140 plus friction modifier in the rear diff
Fresh Mobil One 75W90 gear oil in the front diff
I already drained the torque converter, dropped and cleaned the trans pan, replaced the filter, and refilled with Mobil One full synthetic Mercon V.
Changed the oil to Mobil One, with a Mobil One filter.
Flush the power steering and refill with Mobil One Mercon V.
Flush the brake lines. looking for suggestions on brake fluid.
The 4X4 is switch-activated, and works perfectly. Will I need to do anything else to service the front end completely due to the 4X4?
Battery is an Interstate, and is a little over 2 years old, so that should hold me.
Any advice and comments would be appreciated.

your list sounds about right. i have a 96 crown vic and my main concern on both is the tranny. these motors will last forever so.... i got around 130k on both and no major problems so.. might want to check out your front end, ball joints.tie rods etc...
