f150 7700 series questions
I am looking into buying a f150 ex cab 4x4 1999 and up and as I was loking around I saw a 2000 F150 7700 series and I was wondering what the difference was between the 7700 and the regular f150.
I drive a 03 7700 2wd at work and was told by one of our mechanics that the 7700 was basically the 97-98 f250 light duty rebadged as a F150 7700. I have no idea if he knows what he's talking about. The 7700 comes w/ 7 lug wheels, and I'm assuming heavier springs/torsion bars to get the 7700 GVW. I think they also come with the 4r100 trans, and a larger rear end.
That's kinda what I thought, that it was basically a light duty f250 in f150 clothing. I really want to know what gearing the 7700 came with because 3.55's don't cut it for me u need atleast 3.73's to be able to tow decently. How is the 4r100 trans different than the regular f150 trans?
The 4r100 is basically a stronger transmission than the 4r70w. This is the transmission used behind the desiel and the v10 in the f250s. The 4r100 wil take up to a 1000 ft. lbs of torque versus the 4r70w will only hold 700 ft. lbs. Look in the transmission forum and check out the sticky, it will tell you all about them.

Heres a Post I made a while back...
I had an F250 LD, same thing as the F150 7700, with the 7 Lugs, It was such a pita to find aftermarket parts for especially Wheels. Heres a Picture of mine: Attachment 27963 and some facts about the 250LD/F150 7700 - 7 Lug Rims - - They have a larger frame then the F150 - Bigger Brakes - 3:73 rear end from factory - 4R100 Tranny - Extra leaf in back - Larger Torsion bars - - Heavier towing capacity - Weigh more - - Larger rotors, I believe 13.5" - HD shocks - power steering cooler - 4700 lbs rear axle - HD rad, thicker - HD alternator - HD battery - LT tires standard, load range D - the tranny is the same as a F250 SD and the F350 SD - 8,600 lbs towing - 11,500 lbs GCVWR - 7,700 lbs payload |
good looking truck. I'm pretty sure you just gave me all the info I needed. Thanks alot!

Look up the axle and tranny codes on the door jamb sticker.
I have a 04 F150, 4X4 super cab, long bed ,7700lb truck, with 7 lugs, the only complaint I have is that wheels are expensive. centerline is the only company I have found that even makes wheels, and they are very proud of them.
I have a little over 2000lbs of tools and parts on the truck and it still needs a leveling kit to lift the front. when I replace it I will buy another one just like it. |
The biggest difference is the 7700# trucks have a stronger rear axle, I believe it is either a 9.75" or a 10.25" semi floating axle.
If you can get your hands on a 7700, jump! By far the best F series I've owned! It should have the Sterling 10.25" rearend, 4R100 tranny mated to the 5.4. All the big auto parts stores DO NOT list a 2000 F150 7700 but everything is the same as a 1999 F250 PICKUP, notice PICKUP not 1999 SUPERDUTY or LIGHTDUTY. Can you tell I've had to buy parts before. Good luck on finding a nice 7 lug rim!
When it comes to the 7700 you do have a some rims to pick from I found 2 different rims and they were 16 and in a 18 I went with the eagle and the other was American racing both offered the style in a 16and 18
