2001 4.6L 4x4 Supercrew

I am hearing a clanking noise and from putting it on a ramp it looks like the joint on the front shaft (4x4) at the transmission is loose.

However I was told from a parts manual that there is no replacement Universal joint for that. There is a replacement at the front axle and of course there are the 2 replacements for the rear drive shaft.

So what is the deal, do I have to replace the entire front shaft? And the clanking is really loud especially at slow to stop speeds.

Any suggestions?

 

I replaced that u-joint on my truck, and it's the same as yours. Call your Frod dealer and ask them.

Do you have a part # for that U-joint.? Its the one near the transmission, NOT the one at the front axle.

I am in Jamaica... have to rely on Non Ford dealers....

I do not have a part number, and I didn't buy mine from a dealer. I think I got mine from Advance Auto (not sure if you have those there). And yes, it was the one at the transfer case end of the driveshaft.
