Question U-Joint noise

I have this strange chirping noise that I can hear from about 15 mph on down. As the truck slows down so does the noise although the noise seems to be slightly faster than the speed of the truck. This is driving me crazy. Could this be a bad u-joint? Had the brakes checked and they are fine.
Thanks, Dennis

Don't you just hate that!! They should have noise shops. Shops that have special equipment just for diagnosing the source of all noises!!!
Just a few questions, could it possibly be the tires? Is the noise constant or off/on, like is there a pattern to the noise? What does it sound like? Take your hands, run them flat over the tread surface of your tires, feel for any bulges or off centre treads?
Just my .02

Hey I should start a poll of whether people would pay to take their vehicle to a noise shop. Diagnosing the root of all rattles, squeeks and other pestering sounds!!

I had a similar noise on my previous vehicle, 95 explorer 4x4. It was indeed a bad u-joint, although after they (dealer, not under warrenty) replaced the front u-joint on rear driveshaft it still squeaked. Had to take another test drive with the mechanic to get him to finally hear it. They finally had to put it on a lift and put it in gear to determine it was the rear joint on the FRONT driveshaft. They replaced the whole driveshaft because that u-joint was "un-serviceable", meaning it could not be replaced the whole driveshaft had to be replaced. Fortunately, they paid for that, only about 40,000 miles on truck.

By the way, if your out of warrenty and you do need a u-joint, might want to replace it with an aftermarket part that has a grease fitting and give them a shot of grease at each oil change. I've also been told that you should replace them in pairs, but i dont know how true that is.

Good Luck!
