Diff Cover Torque Specs

I purchased a TransDapt differential cover to replace the rusted up original one on my 2001 with a 9.75. The new cover comes with a gasket and new bolts. The general (non vehicle specific) instructions say to torque it down to 12 ft/lbs. From reading on here, however, that sounds kind of low. I dont want to damage the gasket, but I want it to stay in place also. Does anyone think more than 12 ft/lbs is necessary? If so, what do you recommend? Thanks.

Definitely go with the instructions. The one time i checked specs for an older vehicle diff cover bolts, it was something like 14ftlbs, so 12 is not out of the ballpark.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate the group think. 12 ft/lbs it is.
