Dana 44 Hub issue.

Ok, progressing along on the ole '99. The front axle housing on it is a dana 44 from a 79 pickup. I am wanting to swap out the hubs with those from an 88 bronco, which also has a dana 44, but it is ifs. Question: are they compatible/interchangable? Also, are the internals in the house, ie, gears and differential the same as well? Thanks.

Almost all 1/2-ton trucks (regardless of make or axle) have the same splines in the hubs & on the axle stubs. So the same lock will work on MOST light trucks.

I'm saying they'll work (as long as the '88 doesn't have the rare tophat-style locks), but you can check by going to any website that sells any brand of hub locks & looking up the recommended lock for both trucks. If they take the same lock, that answers your question.

For more info on the tophats, click my signature link & look in the Brakes & Hubs album.
