upper Ball Joints

Question upper Ball Joints

Ok guy I got a 1997 f-150 2wd with 130000 v6, I got the bottom ball joints replaced it cost me an arm and a leg. I want to do the upper ball joints by my self I was wondering if anybody knew anything about replacing upper ball joints i.e. special tools if its a pain in the A** if you would do it at your house you know tell me what you know about replacing upper ball joints.

ball joints

You will need to be carefull not to eject the loaded spring. Also, keep in mind the truck will need an alignment, it may also need cam lobes (alignment)...

Jack up the front and remove the tire. Support the lower arm on a jack stand and the weight of the truck will keep the spring compressed. Remove the cotter pin then the castellated nut on the ball joint. Use a puller to separate the Ball joint from th spindle. Mark the cams on the A-arm and remove the bolts. Replace in reverse order. Torque: Ball joint nut 57-76 ft/lbs. A-arm bolts 84-112 ft/lbs.

PS. Odds are you will need an alignment. Specially if you did not have cam bolts.
