Talking Payload Group 2000

Hey, I was looking through the guide for 2000 F-150's and had a few questions. Some of the options and equipment have changed and Im trying to some up what I have and what is offered:

1)Payload Group: There are three offered but in my 97 booklet there is no mention. Does anyone know what a 97 F-150 with ORP and Towing Package would have?

2)HD Electrical/Cooling Group: Is this the same trans cooler, power steering cooler, hd battery offered with the Towing group from 97?

3)Sport Group: What comes with this?

4)What comes with the Off Road Group for 2000?

5)Is 4 wheel ABS disks standard now for the XLT? There was no mention of it...

Thanks for the help in advance, youre bringing me one step closer to a new truck!

Triton46....

For the 2000 model year, Ford has eliminated the F-250 Light Duty, and replaced it with the 7700 Payload Group Option, which upgrades the suspension and frame, brake size, 7 lug wheels (as opposed to 5 lug), and includes the Heavy Duty Cooling/Electrical Group.

The body style is the same as the "regular" F-150'. The only way to tell is the 7 hole wheels and a "7700" decal on the tailgate under the F-150 logo. This package also gives you the 3.73 geared rear end standard (3.55 gears standard with all other trucks)-(with LS optional on both). 4X4 is available with this option package, but the Off Road Package is NOT available with the 7700 Payload Package. I drove one here in Florida at Sawgrass Ford... rides just like the previous F-250 Light Duty series.

The Heavy Duty Cooling/Electrical package had not changed at all from the 97 model year (super cooling, 72 AMP battery, etc.)(this package is INCLUDED with the Class III trailer tow group on all F-150's).

The Off -Road package has also not changed to my knowledge since the 97 year (upgraded gas shocks, full skid plates, 17" OWL tires).

The Sport Package includes the color keyed wheel moldings, honeycomb front grill insert, leather wrapped steering wheel, 17" wheels, and some interior upgrades.

For the 2000 year, ALL XLT and Lariats have standard 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS, regardless of option packages.

Only other differences for the 2000 model year are the addition of driver side assist handle, overhead console similar to the one on the Expedition, "improved" rear seat on Super Cabs - Chevys are still roomier and have rear headreasts though:-( . The cromed steel wheels have been replaced with "polished" aluminum on the Off Road Package for 2000 as well.

Hope this helps!!!!!

TSSCS,

Thanks you have answered my questions and then some!

So what is the normal payload group (1 or 2) for an XLT with 4.6 V8? Ive been looking around at the 2000's and very impressed by even the small changes from my 97. Is it possible to get the chrome wheels as options on a truck with the ORP? Ive heard they come standard on the Lariat now, so Im wondering if I have to upgrade to that in order to get those sweet chrome wheels.

Thanks again!

Triton46 -- If you are looking at a 4x4 with a 4.6 again, you have no optional payload packages to choose from. Specs for 2000 are as follows:

Flareside Regular Cab 4x4:
4.2 V6 6000 pound GVWR
4.6 V8 6250 pound GVWR
5.4 V8 6300 pound GVWR

Flareside Super Cab 4x4:
4.6 V8 6250 pound GVWR
5.4 V8 6500 pound GVWR

Also, you do have to upgrade to a Lariat (non-off road) to get the 17" Chromed Steel Wheels for 2000. If you get a Lariat Off Road, you get the 17" Cast Aluminum just like an XLT.

The brochure I was reading said the only way to get the 3.73 LS was to get the 7700 payload group. The 7700 payload group comes with seven lug wheels. Does anyone know what these seven lug wheels look like? Are they the same wheels as the five lug, just with two more lugs? Or are they the F250 wheels?
