Which gears??...4:30 or 4:56...on a 4x2

Hi all,

I am on the verge of swapping out gears on my 2005 4x2 5.4 supercrew and the reason I'm swapping them out is due to I occationally tow a 7k lbs boat and do alot of in-town driving.

I currently have a set of 24's with tires that are 2" taller than stock and the 3.55LS is just too short a gear to help with towing and takeoff. My consern is if I jump up to a 4:30 or even as extreme as 4.56 is it really going to kill my MPG on highway driving(which I rarely do)?? My current mods are(Edge, K&N, Mag SI/SO, pulleys, and E-fans)

Other question is if I do swap up the in-town MPG should rise a little too due to it's easier for the truck to take off and stop in the "stop and go" traffic correct??

Thanks for the info and any help you can provide.
Andy

If you don't do much highway driving, I'd recommend the 4.56. That's what I went with on mine. At 75mph I'm running about 2500 rpm's. My truck is not my daily driver and I am very please with how it tows and drives in town.

1BDf-150, Not to question you but would 4:30's be a happy medium then with the 24's??
