4:10 or 3:73 gear swap

i have a 98 5.4l... i am pretty sure it has 3:55 stock and i was wanting to switch out my gears... i was told that the 3:73 would be a better choice for everyday driving but i wanted the 4:10 gears for more of a performace aspect... i would also still like to be able to do 100 on the hight way and at least 70 cruising... what do yall think, i run a 10 flat on the 1/8th mile how much of a difference am i looking at....

thanks

3:55 to 3:73 is not worth it. Not a whole lot of difference between the two perfromance wise. If you are regearing, definitely go 4:10 at a minimum!

Or 4:36 if you like running the 1/8th.

Guys, you will never run out of revs with 4.10s.
The myth that your truck will redline at 90mph is just that...a myth, stemming from the old days of narrow-ration, non-overdrive trannies.

Neal the HP Freak should chime in...he's got 4.10s turning 28-inch tires and he hit over 150mph if I recall correctly.

I've been north of 130mph (calculated) and I still had a lot of revs left...I didn't pull to redline (not sure if I could) and I've got a supercharger. I'll never do that again, BTW...too scary.

I guarantee you that my blown Expedition is faster up top with 4.10s that with the factory 3.31s, which were so tall that it took too much power to turn them.

Here's my engine rpm at various speed with 4.10s.

As you can see, revs aren't excessive by any means
