FX4 drivetrain

hey guys, i got a quick question for ya, what is different between the 97-2003 off road 4x4 and the FX4's? i have a 2002 fx4 and my buddy has a 99 off road, and i do wayyy better off road than he does, even in 2wd. so im guessing fx4's have limited slip, different gears(if so, what are the fx4 rear end gears?), and what else?

thanks
Adam M

you could get under the truck and look at the tag on the diff if it says 3L73 then its 373 limited slip if its just 373 then its an open diff

This should help you some. And from the looks of things if your axle code is H9, then you have 3.55 gars with a limited slip. Hope this helps

Axle Type

19 — 3.55 non-limited slip — F-150
25 — 4.10 non-limited slip — F-150
26 — 3.73 non-limited slip — F-150/Mark LT
27 — 3.31 non-limited slip — F-150
B5 — 4.10 limited slip — F-150
B6 — 3.73 limited slip — F-150/Mark LT
H9 — 3.55 limited slip — F-150

yup, i looked again, it says H9. so good, i have a limited slip! not too worried bout the gear ratio, i dont do too much off roadin unless its hunting season. a 3.55 will do fine for me! thanks a bunch!
