Do I Have Shift On The Fly?

I have a 97 F150 ext cab Lariat 4x4...I have the turn **** on the dash for the 4 wheel drive. Is it safe to flip in 4x4 on the fly? or do I have to be stopped? My dad says its not safe, and some other people say its fine...

Read and follow the instructons in the owners manual as this is how Ford recommends shifting the transfer case.

All the 4x4 F150s I have owned since 83 are shift on the fly (as long as hubs are engaged, which you don't have to worry about). Also that is for 4hi, not 4lo. 4lo requires stopped, foot on brake, and in neutral. Speed limit on shift on fly is usually 50-55.

If you don't have a manual, you can download one from www.motorcraftservice.com, in the owners section.
