Question Need powertrain advice

I am a mechanic in the Navy Seabees. I have a pretty good mechanical background, but have never done much with transmissions or differentials. My E4OD needs rebuilt, and I need to upgrade to 4.10's due to larger tire size. I have been through a military class about powertrain components and how to rebuild them, and did rebuild a 400 turbo out of a HMMWV. I would like to do my tranny and diff's so I can save myself close to $2,000. I will definately have a good set of instructions before I even attempt this. I am not afraid to try it, but would like to hear some feedback before I tear into this project. Should I do it, or just spend the money???

If there is one thing that I have learned from the military is that the greatest thing holding you back from ANYTHING is apprehension (your mind). I'd say that if you can stand to live without your truck while you take your time and do it right, I'd do it. I dont know if the Gulfport NS has an auto hobby shop, but I do know that Keesler does, right up the road. They have all the tools you need, and a place to keep your truck while you work on it (you pay for it, but the price is nominal). It's not rocket science, and as long as you have the right tools, and the right manuals, it shouldn't be out of your reach. Plus, at the Keesler auto skills shop, there are ASE mechanics that can help you through the rough spots. (there was one guy who had a shaved head and a gotee that was particularly helpful)
