I know BP makes my truck run like total crap. Everything else runs fine; name brand, cheap stuff, 87 octane, 89 octane. I get the same MPG no matter what I use. So I run the cheapest I find. Just run what your manual says, anything more can damage your engine.

not starting a fight or anything but gas is gas up here in my area. not sure if its all over the us but in mn and wi there is a gas filling station for the gas tankers... say holiday puts 500000 gallons in and bp puts 10000 in the gas goes to a holding tank... their gas is not seperated it all is the same. holiday can take out 500000 and bp 10000 thats how it works. all their gas is mixed and the same. the only way to get bad gas is a station with less ppl, their gas sits longer and has more chance for crud and water, so just fill up at a station that has more gas business.

I just picked up a 2007 Screw and right now I am running 87. I was only laughing at the suggestion that a higher octane 93 (which is a slower buring fuel) will damage our engines. It is ridiculious.

A few years ago there was a national news story where someone stated, in essence, that ethanol was not cost effective. A short time later and maybe a couple weeks apart 2 local competing TV stations for a news feature story each conucted a test burning 5 gallons each of pure regular gasoline, 10% ethanol, and premium gasoline. They just gave the miles traveled, not percentages, but when I roughly figured they both came out to about 6% less MPG on the 10% ethanol. The premium went just slightly less total miles on the 5 gallons than the 10% ethanol, kind of tough to figure that one out but the extra octane in premium is just an anti-knock ingredient it contains no energy. Both stations used a smaller car as their test vehicle.

With a tuner set up for it yes I do. But as I put 40k a year on, I imagine I will mosty be on an 87 tune.

btw I am only getting 15-16 on the highway right now and that is cruising at 65. I hope this thing breaks in and does a bit better. I usually get better than average on the hwy by keeping the throttle light and the speeds down

Do you have any mods ? Have you tried a poweroff reset of the pcm to reinitialize the adaptive learning program ? What about a air induction system ?

Our engines are designed to run on 87 octane fuel; anything higher is at best a waste of money. You won't gain any gas mileage or performance out of a higher octane fuel unless you get a tuner. At worst, running a fuel that's a higher octane than what your engine needs could possibly cause long-term damage because of the mis-timed ignition wearing on the pistons, etc.

As far as brands of gasoline, I guess it depends on where you are. There are many store brands coming from a few sources, so most of it will be similar if not the same. The only thing that really changes is detergent mixes that they add. From what I've always heard, a good rule of thumb is to get gas from a station that's reasonably busy. That way the gas isn't sitting for a long time getting water mixed in from condensation, etc. And the tanks do leak.

Disclaimer before the flaming starts
I've heard lots of theories on this that make sense scientifically, but I have not conducted extensive laboratory testing on any of these theories. Just passing along the info.

I haven't noticed any differences in gas mileage by using different brands, but I do know that the only gas I've found that doesn't cause my engine to ping is Shell. I agree that the base gasoline stock is most likely the same no matter who sells it (at least in my area), so the difference must be in the additive package.

My truck is the only vehicle I have that seems to be finicky about the brand of gas it gets. All my other vehicles get the least expensive brand available, and none of them have any problems whatsoever.

gas is gas. i never bought that one gas is better than another. keep engine tuned, good plugs, fuel filter etc.. 87 is all u need. thats the one thing i follow in the manual. the 4.6 and 5.4 already burn pretty clean so 93 waste of money. just one mans opinion.
