4X4 has a mind of it's own!!!!

I have an 98 XLT - My 4 wheel drive is not kicking in when I engage the lever, but once in a while if I leave it in 4-high over night, and go and start the truck up n the morning the 4 wheel drive will be engaged. I was thinking that it was just stuck due to not using it that much during the summer. But, this has been happening for about 2 weeks now. Has this happened to anyone else? Any thoughts on what can be the cause, and what I can do to remedy it?

Any thoughts would be appreciated - it's going to start snowing very bad soon here in Chicago. i need all 4 wheels. Please help!!!!!

It's likely one or both of the the vacuum solenoid(s) sticking, causing the center-axle disconnect to not engage. Search and you'll find hundreds of posts on the issue.
