F150 drivetrain strength ?
Here we go again! Somebody asks a question, wanting some info and someone has to go and say "you should get this because the whatever is wimpy." Is possible for some of you out there to answer a question without being a complete ***! This just like the V6-V8 crap I am so sick of seeing if you don't like it so be it don't sit ther a tell the owners of a vehicle equipped with whatever engine, tranny, ect. that their truck sucks or is wimpy just because you like something else. The best part is when you get called on your remarks is that you all back pedal. If you want to bicker and put stuff down go else where and leave this site to people who have questions and would like a answer devoid of critisim and snide remarks. If the guy is doing some heavy duty pulling on a regular basis he probably needs the PSD, if he only tows occasionaly then the 5.4 would do him fine. See his question can be answered without a bunch of B.S. reasoning. Now if someone feels the need to bitch at me for their own actions then go ahead, more power to you. My opinon is think before you type your well informed answers, we'll all be much happier.

PS398,
Many of these posts are heavily opinionated, and that is never going to change. It is the nature of this board, and you will see it time and time again in future threads. It's best just to let it go, and move on to more productive threads. No sense in getting indigestion over offending remarks to others, just ignore them. Shunning an individual(s) by not replying is more effective then playing into their hands with an equally ignorant post...
-kindest regards

PS398: You obviously didn't get many "plays well with others" marks on your report cards.
Until your post, nobody got personal.
Your opinion of Wimpy may differ from that of others, however there is a more factual way of representing it than by going on a personal attack.
It is obvious, from years of posts on this web, that there is little case for the 5.4 as a Strong engine or efficient engine.
Those of us that own one obviously felt that it was good enough for us to purchase them.
The value to someone posting a legitimate question posed to other owners asking their OPINION is that hopefully someone will post an opinion backed with some logic -- not emotional knee-jerk reaction to the use of a word or phrase.
It's called having 'duck-feathers' -- where water runs off without drowning the duck.
From the posts, many of the people asking questions are within a half-dozen years of receiving their first license -- and may not actually know about life over 6 litres - likely from having grown up in the post-gas-crunch years replete with motorcycle-sized powerplants that make big horsepower at high rpm with little 'grunt'.
So, opine away -- just keep it friendly and impersonal.

Let me apologize for my heated reply. My point really was that when I first joined up there very little bickering and putting down here. I would log on here to get some info and thats what you got We answered questions with information not by saying stuff like junk, wimpy, piece of crap and what not. As far comparing the new generation a engines too the old ones, that's like apples and oranges, they aren't even close too each other. You are right most posters will never know what it was like to have a big block under the hood. But before knocking Ford's current powerplants as wimpy think back to the early and mid 80s, there were some engines that wouldn't pull. Some things have gotten better some worse. We don't have the option of getting what we need at an affordable price anymore. The current truck market out there doesn't let us. It is not drive by the people like you and me that would by a truck to be just that, it is driven by the current trend of the people that buy them to use as a second car, or so they can make that occasional run to the home improvement store. When you se that all three of the Big Three sold more trucks than cars, and more SUVs than trucks last year, you start to wonder where this is all headed to. I can tell you where it seems to be going, then person that really needs a truck to use as a truck is left out. To get a truck that would compare to my 72 3/4 ton with a 460, C-6, 4.10 posi F-150 i would have to shell out over $30,000. Once again I apologize for slamming on anyone. My opinion just is to each his. All of our trucks were bought for different reasons, and wea ll got what we felt that we needed for our own personal purposes.

Here is my opinion formed from my recent investigation and decision to buy something for my <10% towing needs with my 24 foot Prowler Light TT that weighs 4500 pounds loaded. Take it as you will. It is based on allowing 20 percent ununsed capacity for hills and extreems and to still leave you some load in the bed for stuff. Also it is based on the new HP rated 5.4L at 260hp and the 4R100 tranny:
F250 Supercab 5.4L V8 with the 8800 GVWR (4X2) for up to a 5500 pound trailer (deduct 500 pounds for 4X4)
F250 or 350 Supercab (or Crew) 6.3L V10 (4X2) for up to a 7500 pound trailer (deduct 500 pounds for 4X4 and add 500 pounds if it is a F350)
F250 PSD or 350 PSD for anything above 7500 and if pulling anything much over 10K go with the F350 with dual rear wheels and fifth wheel hitch.
GON4X4N, you would just be over my safe feel for the 5.4L although it works well for me. So I put you into the second and third category ... V10 or PSD F250 or F350
Check this thread out as well. It is a recent report on my towing experience in the mountains of NC last weekend with my F250 Superduty SC with a 5.4L. Performed magnificently. Plenty of pull for me. Cool running 4R100 tranny too! https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/000249.html
Good luck
