Any ideas fella's, shifter moves side to side but not back and forth, 97 F150 4.6, FX4 4wd, thanks

Look under your truck on the drivers side at the transfer case. you will see where your shifter comes through the floor to the side of the transfer case. have someone move it while you look the rod could be bent or broke. that is where i would start and that would be the most inexpensive fix.
