2002 f-150 rear end back lash question/
how much backlash should a common rearend have in it? i can grab drive shaft and rock it with hand laft to right and i get about 1/2 inch of slack.
is this normal???

That's not backlash, but what you're feeling is normal.
Backlash is the amount of play between the ring gear and the pinion gear. It's measured with a dial indicator, and should be around .008"-.012", give or take a few thousandths.
