98 Rearend, Which years will fit?

Hello,
I have a 98 F150 4.6l 4x4 standard cab, short box with rear end bearing noise for the second time.
What year rear ends can I grab from a junkyard and have something dependable that bolts right in? Seems to be more than a few isolated cases of 8.8 growlers going down the road.
Read one post here of someone putting in a rear that had disks and it was a drop and drag except for the e-brake cables. Found a site that offers a 9.75 upgrade with disk brakes and thinking this might be a possibility also.
Not much off road use and then its just crawling easy thru the tight stuff but do trailer some heavy loads.
Any links to shops that offer complete rebuilt rear ends?
Will an 8.8 ever be reliable?
