Rear axle clicking.....

When i'm off road or on a bumpy part of the road there is a clicking sound coming from my axle. So i jacked it up and took off the tires, and when i pull and push on the hub the hole axle move 1/4 in. or more. It does this on both sides. Is this something i should worrie about, and how do i fix it... Thanks

If you could push the axles in 1/4", the c-clip retainers would fall off and tha axle shaft would pull back out. I'm quite sure that the movement you're experiencing in the axle shafts is quite normal, otherwise, the axle shaft would have fallen out already.

The clicking can be coming from a whole lot of different parts. It could be as simple as the hitch drawbar rattling around in the receiver. Without some more information, it's going to be a little difficult to pin this one down.

OK, but again, the in and out movement of the axle shafts on a c-clip axle is 100% normal.

It's a 1997 f 150, I think it has the 9" in it, and i guess it's a 3/4 ton, cuz it's a 150....

If it's a 97F-150, then it's either an 8.8 or a 9.75. If it has the Sterling 10.25, then it's an F-250 LD (AKA F-150 7700 lb). It's NOT a Ford 9".

Mine does that same clicking crap too. It's a leaf spring clip thingy. I'm just too lazy to fix it.
