NO! Not unless you never plan to use four-wheel drive. It would be okay if you did it only in the rear and NEVER used the 4x4. Otherwise, do the front too. If the front and rears are geared differently, you can't use the 4x4, not even a little.

kstonelb86, I'd be VERY worried about this guy doing your gear swap. I've done the rear only on a previous truck that I owned and didn't use 4 wheel drive, but I did get stuck and only used it for a few feet and everything was fine, but I was in mud, you CANNOT use it on any sort of dry hard surface. I think you'll be very happy with the gear swap.

My truck

2000 F150 extended cab 4x4 5.4.

4.10 gears 285/70/17 BFG all terrians on 17x9 Mickey Thompsons

Detroit locker out back and Eaton electric up front.

2000 rpms at 70 mph.

Cost around $2000 did the install myself. The lockers cost the most around $600 rear and $650 front plus gears install kits and oil .

Works nice wish I would have went with 4.56s. It is just a weekend truck and I am either towing or offroading.
