Lightbulb HELP!!

Hi all!! I got a question about my gears gringing from 1st to 2nd, but it happens only when I pull up to someone and they wanna drag race with me. but if I drive normal and not hot rod the truck the gears change/ shift great, but the gringing only happens when I REV high RPMS and then switch from 1st to 2nd gear and then the grinds allways happens. Is this normal for every one who has a 5spd, 4.2L or is it just me and my gears. please help. my truck is a 98 f150 supercab w/25K
Thanks,
Mike

From personal expierence I don't think it has anything to do with the revs. Its the speed you are yanking on the shifter.

Do an experiment.

Twist her up to around 5200 or so and slowly shift into 2nd the do the same but really jerk it into 2nd, you will then see what I mean.

You have to remember this is a truck not a sports car!

Could also be a bad synchronizer...
Good luck.

Dropped,
I hate to say the obvious, but I'd take it back under warranty since you should still be covered. What can they say? Just don't tell them you've been dragging.
