Sorry, I didn't know where to post this, but I was just wondering how hard it is to get a copy of a key for my F150. Does it have a computer chip, and how much is it going to cost me?

 

On mine (2005) anyone can cut it, but it's a pats key so I just took it to the dealer and they programmed it for free.

 

What is a pats key? And does it have a chip?

 

PATS = passive anti theft system has some kind of chip or code in it.
Check your owners manual, should tell you there

 

Pats keys are available for U$10 to U$25. Anybody can cut it.
To program the chip the dealer usually charges nothing (as above) to U$80.
If you have TWO keys, you can program your new, third key yourself. Howto is in the owners manual.

If you have both original keys, buy the proper PATS key off eBay, for cheap.

Home Depot cut it for me, for free.

Program it yourself, as per the directions in the owners manual.

 

I am with Kool Aid I did the same wal-mart cut it for free programed it myself in about a whole whopping minute.
