is this a good way to calculate gears?

i read in an off road magazine that up divide the new tire size by the original and the multiply it by the original gear ratio. i have a v6. so for example say i want 35's. so 35/30= 1.166666. 1.166666x3.55=4.14. according to this i would be good with 4.30 gears. most people say 4.56.

It's saying that your original performance would be restored with 4.10s. What you would be "good" with would need to be secondarily determined based on your needs.

yea 4.10's will put me back to stock, but if i get 4.30 then add a cold air intake, exhaust, and a chip. i think i will be ok for when i tow my trailer w/ 2 atvs, and my boat. i don't want to go 4.56 b/c i think it won't help to much when i go on trips. what do yall think?

4.56 unless you're heading to Bonneville.
