Rear axle
Rear axle
I am getting closer on my supercharged 5.4 swap. At the point where I have to start thinking about putting in the drive shafts. FYI It is a HD supercharged 5.4 and 4r100 transmission being swapped into a 139" WB 4x4 Scab F150. The transmission is mated to the BW4406 transfer case.
My problem is regarding the drive shafts. Since the 4R100 is 3" longer than the the manual 5 speed that the truck originally came with my drive shafts will not work.
I can buy the front one for a f-250 LD.... problem solved ...I think?
I can buy a new rear drive shaft or have the current one shortened. The truck has the 8.8 rear axle. In the future I will swap that for the 9.75.
How much difference is there in the distance from the centerline of the axles to the drive shaft mounting flange comparing the 8.8 and 9.75?:
Or the 9.75 to the 10.25. I do not want to have to do the drive shaft twice, if axles require different shafts, I would bite the bullet and put a 9.75 in now. I just want to run with the 8.8 now because all the sh*t that has been changed already.

spend the money now and do it right. You will have to adjust the driveshaft depending on what rear end in in there. Since you will have all that power, put in a bigger diff and be done with it.
