U.S. Made vs Canadian Made F-150's
 
I have recently purchased a 2000 F-150 Sport, V6, 5sp. Can anyone tell me if there are any differences such as in build quality, reliability, etc... Also, is there anything I may need to know as far as quirks or surprises with this particular truck.

I had read in a few places that Canadian built F series trucks are the most reliable domestic vehhicle built. I'm not saying this just because I'm Canadian.

My truck is made in Ontario, does that meen it is Canadian?
If they make the best trucks, I hope mine is one of them, 10,000 miles, and so far no problems

Mine was built in Kansas as well. There were a few strange noises, but the dealership took care of them, the truck is tight as a drum... And anyways, weren't the piston-slappy engines produced in Canada?

The Norfolk, VA assembly plant received a J.D. Powers Quality award last year for quality/satisfaction based on owner surveys from all the assembly plants.

-K&N or AirAid FIPK kit
-Flowmaster Force II exhaust (series 50 SUV with duals out the rear)
-Mickey Thompson Challenger 16" wheels with 295/75 BFG AT KO's
-4.10 gears (still thinking about this one ...anyone have any input?)
-LS diff or locker of some sort once they are available..

Both of the F-150s that I have owned (1998 and 2000) were built in Virginia. Extremely high quality, no problems at all. I honestly do not think there is any difference between a Canadian or US built F-150.

Why would Ford build a truck in a Canadian plant and have it shipped to Florida. Im also curious as to why my replacement dash panel had to be shipped in from Kansas, when I only live 15 minutes from the Ford Oakville assembly plant. I just love logistics.

Actually, you've answered your own question. You live next to an ASSEMBLY plant. Not a parts depot.

The assembly plants only get enough inventory to build the vehicles requested. Furthermore, they only get the inventory when they 'need' it. It's a common business practice used to reduce costs associated with having parts lying around. The business method is called "just in time".

It sounds stupid on an individual basis, but for the company as a whole, it is very cost effective.

I used to think I could tell a difference in the Canadian built Chevrolet pickups over the U.S. made counterparts. The U.S. made rigs were/are junk, the Canucks seemed to take a little more pride in theirs (better union folks). However, my KC built F150s have been just fine (my '68 was made in California and did alright). With the kind of knuckleheads Canada has inflicted on us (Pamela Anderson, Alan Thicke, Kids In The Hall, DeGrassi Junior High, Rich Little, Jim Carrey, Norm MacDonald, The Wilkinsons, Jenny Jones, etc.) it's the LEAST they could do to build some good cars.

I believe the trucks no matter where they are assembled, have the same quality. Ford oversees production. I don't think ford would give less attention to either assembly line. Because if a problem arises, the consumer doesn't care where it's built. They are just going to see ford f150 on the side of the truck. My truck was built in Canada, and I have had minimal problems.

I have heard the Canadian ones have a unique problem with a noise. During heavy acceleration it is sometimes known to make a sound something like...well...let me see if I can describe it...."Eh" https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

My truck was built in Norfolk Va., never went back to the dealer for service, has 36K on the clock right now. As for the Canadian issue, my Windstar was built in Canada, not the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. I don't think it makes that much of a difference where a vehicle is made, with Ford sourcing parts from all over the world. Transmissions from Japan, engines from Germany and Canada and less significant parts from who knows where?

My '97 F150 SC 4X2 Lariat was built at Kansas Plt. My '99 F150 SC 4X4 was built at Ontario. Build quality and paint were better on the Kansas '97.
