8.8 rear end

I have just replaced the spider gears and side gears in my rear end and now it makes noise when I am coasting. Somebody told me that I need to tighten the pinion nut to make up for the space the crush ring made, I just wanted another opinion. Also, can somebody tell me the size of the pion nut. I think it was 28mm but I dont remember. Thanks.

"Make up for the space the crush ring made?" Huh? You didn't mess with the crush sleeve or the pinion gear, did you? I forget, but I think the pinion nut is 1-1/16" or 1-1/8", it's been a while since I've done one.

Okay, did you reuse the old crush sleeve or use a new one? How'd you tighten the pinion flange? Sounds like you've got a pinion bearing preload problem, either too much or not enough.

I bought a new crush ring. I tightned it as much as I could. I have been driving it around a little to crush it. Now I plan to tighten it up. Hopefully, that will take the noise away.

This is trouble. It takes a lot of umph to pull the crush sleeve down properly and set your pinion bearing preload. Just "driving it around" ain't gonna cut it, bubba. At this point, I'd recommend taking it to someone in the know to go back through the axle before you do any further damage.
