96 rear end noise
96 rear end noise
the other day i noticed a noise coming from the rear end. it sounds like matel rubbing and bad wheel bearings on the front more of a high pitch. it has around 100000 miles on her so i took the wheels off and cleaned the brakes and that all looked fine and put it back togeather and still makes the noise. it also only does it when i accelerate and once it gets going its fine and dont hear anything. im thinking rear bearings or maybe the diff is going out. any ideas?
Unfortunately, rear axle noise is difficult to diagnose without tear down and inspection. Could be one bearing, could be several, you won't know 'till you tear it apart and inspect them all.

OH MAN!! that is a bad sign.. I blew my rear end, THe spider gears where shreded to where the teeth that grip on, where gone. MEchanics said too much popping cluth, and 410 gear ratio might of been a lil to much for that stock part. So a Heavy duty Positrac unit was installed instead.
It all started with a noise similar to what u describe, and then made the CLUNK noise everytime i turned OR on Acceleration.
I hope this isn't ur case. but get it checked B4 the damage gets worse!
