My "4x4" light on the dash started flashing while driving down the highway this morning. 4 wheel drive wasn't engaging but the light kept going on and off and I could hear the relay for it clicking. I've never seen anything like this, anyone seen this before?? Maybe a short? I'm clueless.

 

check the conectors and vacume lines on both the front diff and the transfer maybe something came loose, does everything still work?

 

I had a 95 Explorer that did that after I pulled a stump out of hte ground. A trip to the dealer and $150 later they disconnected the battery and reconnected it, and no more flashing lights

 

Yes, the 4 wheel drive still works. It's not engaging when the light is flashing but when I turn the switch it engages and the light stays on. I've heard of weird things going away after having the battery disconnected, that's a good idea, i'l probably start there.
