'94 F-150 rear driveshaft slip yoke

Hello all,

Im trying to catch up on maintenance on a rig I recently picked up...

Its a 1994 F-150 Std cab 4x4 long bed. 302 with the mazda 5-speed.

After doing some searching on the forum, it seems that I have a slip yoke problem. Chirping or clunking from the rear during rolling from a stop.

And after crawling under it a few minues ago, Im kind of concerned. There is a considerable amount of play between the transfer case and the slip yoke. When I grab the front U-joint, you can wiggle it a good amount in every direction except front-to-rear.

So,

How much play is too much?
And is this a dealer only item for replacement to remedy this problem?

and finally, anyone have a written "walk-thru" on how to replace the yoke?

you may be able to get that yoke through someone that specializes in machine work or drive line work many spring shops will also do driveshaft work. the yoke replacement will be the same as changing the U joint. if the wear is not too great you may try removing it and lubercating it. Ford made a special grease for that problem, it looks like lt blue whiped cream. but it does take the noise out.
