rearend swap
rearend swap
I would like to know if anyone out there has tryed to put a ford 9" housing under a 97 f-150 4x4. My 8.8 has shelled out at 162 thousand miles, like some of the other readers here, mine was also making the wining noise for the last couple of months and it just got worse. I would like to replace it with an older 9" rearend, any suggestions?
This will most certainly work if you find a 9" with the correct width track; however, there are some obstacles. The D/S will need to be lengthened, D/S angularity will need reset for the 9" (9" is designed to have pinion low in the chassis). If you're truck is set-up for rear disc brakes, you will find the 9" has drum brakes.
You may have to fabricate or change the shock mountings on the 9" drum to drum. Worst of all, the 9" is not ABS compatible.

also all 9in axles will have a standerd wheel bolt pattern probobly 5x5.5 and your 8.8 axles are metric so you would need different wheels or custom axles
also if you want a 9in with disc its pretty easy to convert them
