Question Dana or 8.8 Ford ??

Well I thought I had a ford 8.8 till I looked at it. It has a bolt pattern Like a Dana, mine looks squair sided. Five bolts on the top and five on the bottom. Has a code of 19 whitch I think is 3.55's.

This is in a 97 F150 2 wheel drive short bed with a 4.6L V8.
I need to know is this axle better than a 8.8 or should I dump it
when I replace it.

I wont a limited slip axle with 4.11's Co I have to change axle's or will every thing fit in this one ?

Thanks for any help !!
Gator.

Dana axles were never used in the rear of light duty Ford pickups from '97+ as far as I know, I know I've seen them as front axles in AWD Mountaineers and Exploders. Is there an ID tag on one of the cover bolts?

I would be very suprised if you don't have the 8.8.

S862B 55 26
Part of that ID tag is missing...S862B is the axle number, the number that a dealer would use to order a complete assembly, but below that line should be the axle size and gear ratio, it should read something like "88 3L55" for an 8.8" axle with a 3.55 limited slip gearing or 355 for an open axle or 975 for the 9.75" axle and so on.

Axle code 19 on the door sticker is a 3.55 non-limited slip.

That would be a Ford 8.8 axle.

If this is a 8.8 how can I make it a 4.10 locker or limited slip?
Is there a switch out I can do ?
Should I just pick up a rear end from a junk yard and replace mine?
I need this truck to hook up !!

You'll need a 4.10 ring and pinion set, and a differential of your choosing...Eaton, Torsen, Ford TractionLok, Detroit Locker, whatever. You could get a TractionLok out of a junkyard 8.8, go back over it with new clutches and whatnot, set up your new ring and pinion and go about your business. Just make sure that the junker differential you get has the same number of splines that your stock axle shafts do.

The Ford traction lock, can you get it all in one peace with the gears you wont and then install it your self ?

I wonder about how much they cost ?
