axle questions

First of all, what axle do I have? I dont have the tow package, and my stock tires were 255/70/16. Is it an 8.8? and what is the gear ratio in my axle? I know several options were available, so how do you decode the axle tag?

Also, what type of lockers and/or limited slips are available for this axle and what kind of price range are we talking about?

Thanks

I don't remember the exact translation for axle codes from the door jamb decal; search and you'll find it, someone's posted it before. Being that your truck has a 4.6, more than likely it's got the 8.8" rear axle. The toe tag on the differential will tell you for certain. It'll say something like "88" or the 8.8 or "975" for the 9.75" axles. The gear ratio will be listed at "331" or "335" or "373" for open differentials of those respective gear ratios. Limited slip differentials are identified with an "L," such as "3L55" for a limited slip 3.55 axle ratio, or "3L73" and so on. I'm not certain of aftermarket offerings for lockers and such for the 8.8, I know Auburn makes a limited slip differential for 'em, Ford Racing has their TractionLok setup, and I think Torsen makes one too.
