4x4 Differential Ratios
My F-150 4x4 has the 3.55 limited slip rear differential. The standard rear ratio is 3.31 according to edmund.com. When the LS option is installed, do they install a different gear set in the front differential to match the ratio of the rear? Also, I have read in newsgroups that the limited slip eventually goes away (40,000 mi.) as the clutch packs wear out. If so, how difficult will it be to replace them?

Billy,
The front gears should be the same as the rear to eliminate drivetrain stresses of different ratio's working against each other. The l.s. diff. wears depending on how much it's used (how often you turn sharp), or how often you engage it due to slippage. I you drive alot on the highway you put minimal wear on it.
