Unhappy 2001 S-Crew Shaking

I hear it is common for F150's to have weak front ends and can sometime have a shaking problem. Well I have a question.

I have a once or twice a week run off the road shake that looks like my wheels are going to fly off the front of the truck. It only happens when I am going across bridges or hit bumps at 50 to 55 MPH. It’s been at the Ford dealer three times and they say they cannot reproduce the issue. Most of the time it rides fine. I have had the pitman arm, idler are, upper and lower's replaced and the tire rod ends and feel look good. I have never seen anything like this. When it happens I have hung my head out the window and it looks like the tires are rolling on opposite edges.

The truck has a 5in RCD lift with BFG 315/70/17 and Weld Wheels.

Anyone that has ideas please feel free to give them. I'm considering selling the truck if I don’t resolve this soon.

Does the lift kit use the stock center link or does it use a dropped center link. I have seen the dropped centerlinks cause front end shimmy. The lift kits that use the stock centerlink with relocated steering arms on the knuckles seem to be much more stable.

I'm not sure. Its an RCD 5" lift. The truck ran great for 2 years with no issues. I took it in to the dealer for an alignment and they told me the uppers and lowers needed to be replaced. The rest is history. It has been in the shop 6 times over the last month and no one has a clue what is wrong with it. I took it back to the shop that did the lift and they took everything apart and put it back together and it still shakes. The shake is so bad that I got a ticket and was forced to have the truck towed home the other day. The crazy thing is, it only happens every once in a while.

You might get more bites on this in the off road or suspension boards. Does it have a steering stabilizer on it. Sounds like it is picking up some wierd harmonic from something. Maybe the stabilizer is not damping like it should anymore.

That's just a WAG.

Good luck.
