weird noise

i have noticed a weird noise coming from my truck... its when its been sitting for a couple hours then when i go it sounds like metal scraping on something only when the wheel turns fully. i checked my berrings on both rear wheels (its coming from rear) and their fine. it only happens after i let off the gas but when i give it some gas the noise leaves anyone have any idea???

#2 i have a noise which sounds bad while streering.. its only if i go slow and turn the wheel about 1/8 turns from the 12 oclock location its loud and scraping like also? this noise is towards the front... both noises tend to go and come threwout the day but anyone have an ideas on them at all?

Might check your u joints. Sometimes when they start to go bad they will only make noise when they are not loaded (you're off the gas). You haven't installed a lift kit or anything recently have you? Another thing that can cause that is the driveshaft being a hair too short. The axle wrap pushes the slip yoke in when on the gas but when off the gas it will pull out a little and if it is too short it will vibrate and make weird noises.

Just a thought.

15-20 a piece. If you have never done them it may take a while but it really isn't that hard. You might even call the local driveline shop. The guy here in town will change them for like 15 bucks if you just take the shaft out and bring him the joints. That makes it not hardly worth getting greasy. If they are not really rusty it might take an hour or two to change them along with a big hammer and a couple sockets. Don't forget I think you will need a 12pt 12mm metric wrench to remove the driveshaft. If you have 70K miles or more and havent' changed them I would do it regaurdless of if you think they are bad or not. Sometimes they last a lot longer than that sometimes only half that. Its just one of those things.

I would just do the rear to start with. If you use the 4wd a lot then it might be worth doing them too. It's one more thing to rule out if you change them all.

well after replacing the u joint i still had bad noise.. took it to the dealer and apparently my parking brake which i use hardly ever busted the pads out which ruined and heated my rotor in to warping then took out the brake pads dealer wanted 400 something for it all and i sed no way if anything ill buy dif rotors and dif pads and give them 50 for labor they knocked the price of everything to 260 so i said hell with it and let them do it... to tell ya the truth i wasnt going to buy other rotors or anything anyways haha but hey any penny saved is worth it!

Wow, that was pretty interesting. I've never heard of anything like that happening before. Have to store that one in the old kidneys! Sorry I missed it.
