Question slight wine in new gears?

Help calm my fears....Have a new set of us/strange torq-line 4.10 gears. Less than 25 miles on them. Didn't hear any noise on the way home.. Later same day I went for a short ride and can hear a slight noise of the gears turning when I let my foot off the accelerator and coast a bit. Then when I press the pedal to accelerate again I can hear the same noise barely. From a stop to cruising I can't hear a thing. Is this normal and will it go away? Capt.

Cool

HI!... CAPT : Sounds like the mechanic who installed your gears did'nt get your "BACKLASH" set at the right measurment. When I had my 4.10 gears installed I never had any noise and still don't. I would go back and talk to your installer.

Took the truck back to installer. He test drove the truck with me and no noise at all shifting into forward or reverse. No noise at all during acceleration. Very slight noise hardly audible during coast. He made comment about checking torque on pinion nut. Left truck with them. Returned and he said torque was off about 5 lbs. Drove home and it's practically gone..However it still is audible if widows are up radio off no ac running. Very very light. {during coast only} Called him back and he said take it to another shop of my choice and let them test drive it...The next shop told me it was fine. They also heard the same very very light hardly audible noise on coast only...Asked what to do and he said " drive it for a week if it's not gone then change to a different fluid. I'm using amisol 75/140 now...put 30 miles on it today and have to admit it's getting harder to detect! My truck was lowered 2" in rear on same day as install.... What do you think????

Thumbs up

Sounds like they may have eliminated some of the back-lash. Perhaps it will "wear in" and get quieter. However, with that slippery synthetic fluid in there, I don't think it will wear-in in just a week.
Since it is only noisy when coasting, it sure sounds like a gear back-lash problem to me (no PUN intended ) You could also drive in reverse and then coast (continuing in reverse) to see what it sounds like.

Capt. My gears have been nosiy since day one. I have approx 18k and I still hear it especially when you coast. I brought it to the dealer a 7k and was told they coundn't recreate the noise. I have removed the rear cover to change the fluid at 16k and no chips were found and the gears appear to be fine. Go figure.

No noise detectable at all in rear end now. Everything looked fine on inspection I had done today! The mechanic that installed the gears put it up on the rack and ran it at 2200 rpm in forward and reverse. We could hear or feel nothing. Next he pulled the cover off and everything checked out fine. I took a good look and I'm satisfied there o.k.. Refilled with redline and fm.. drove home the long way and could't recreate any noise.. Just to clarify the original noise was very very slight on coast only and they made one adjstment of 5lbs torque on pinion nut...I'm now no longer a member of the " Not To Happy " club. The shop manager did call me numerous times at home and said he would back his work yet felt very confident that it was nothing. Capt....eeerrr!!!!
